Last Meeting - What I was going to tell you all

Here's the newest news for our club, and some of it is quite amazing.

Firstly, we now have a new website. www.fpgdc.org Starting next semester, we will be learning and playing around with our website to create the site we all want. Just a warning, once it's up and running, we will probably have a lot of people who will want us to host their site as well. Our official club stance on this is only for special purposes, and they need to contact me with their reasoning. That way, we'll set a standard that won't bite us later.

Secondly, we have the go-ahead from Bill Beardslee to create t-shirt designs on Cafe Press and profit from them. EXCEPTION (please note): We cannot use any logo from the school other than our own personal club logo. We can use the school name, but cannot recreate the items on sale in the bookstore. Not that I expect that to happen, but it's out there.

Thirdly, I've sadly received some not so good news. Rachel Lazar submitted her resignation from club treasurer, citing health reasons. Hopefully, she'll get better, and might join us later on in the Spring semester. This means we have an opening on the Executive board. We will be hosting elections on our first meeting of the Spring semester, so if you can think of a club member that would be a good treasurer, be sure to nominate him or her during the election.

I hope everyone is safe, and has a great winter break. Have fun!

New news!

Okay. So our Illustrator Tutorial was a success. We were able to get in two people other than club members.

So, we have quite a few jobs to do. I remember that Rob volunteered to do the AIDS Quilt poster (remember, lots of red) and I hope that the rest of you are going to start working on the GSA masquerade ball posters. They want a series of viral posters. I'll have to get Rachel to clarify on exactly she had in mind when she proposed this to them.

Our poster looked great on the club fair. I forgot to mention that. Thanks for everyone who helped out with that.

We should start planning for our InDesign tutorial before break. I figure second semester can be more specific tutorials. Or I can send a RavenFlash out asking what people want to know how to do and have them email the club.

I'll be updating the job list. Hopefully, I can get a copy of the minutes so I know who got assigned what.

AIDS QUILT (due before break):
I'm looking for a large poster to be designed for the Aids Quilt event going on december 1-3....

I'm requesting a lot of red on the poster, as that is the aids awareness color.

it would need to say the following:

quilt display; Pierce Hall December 1-3
Free Rapid Aids Tests (limited supply)
Speakers for Tuesday 7-9 Pierce Hall.

sponsored by: SISTUHS, Gay/straight alliance, Health services and Campus ministries
GSA MASQUERADE POSTERS: Have by December 5
WHAT do you need?
Posters

WHY would you need that? (explain what it’s for)
GSA hopefully will be putting on a Winter Masquerade Ball, open for the whole campus FREE of charge. We will be “selling” blank masquerade masks for $1 or any change you have… we want everyone who wants to come, able to come and have fun. People will be able to decorate their masks how they would like, to match their attire. Attire is not formal, however I know a lot of people who will be going formal, this is an event for any attire, and masks just make it all the more fun!

WHEN do you need that by? (the more time, the better)

Story: There is a story about a man who left this earth and was taken on a tour of the inner realms. He was shown a room where he saw a group of hungry people trying to eat dinner, but because the spoons that they were trying to eat with were longer than their arms, they remained frustrated. "This," his guide told him, "is hell." "That's terrible!" exclaimed the man; "Please show me heaven!" "Very well," agreed the guide, and on they went. When they opened heaven's door, the man was perplexed to see what looked very much like the same scene: there was a group of people with spoons longer than their arms. As he looked more closely, however, he saw happy faces and full tummies, for there was one important difference: the people in heaven had learned to feed each other.

Costume Party!

Last meeting we organized what we wanted to do for the next few weeks.

This next meeting, October 30, will be an open Costume Party, where we will dress up and eat snacks, and later sit down to watch some Nightmare Before Christmas while designing in the Mac Lab.

The following meeting will be a crafty meeting, dedicated to creating the most amazing poster/join our club so go to our school thing EVER. I have a hot glue gun, we've got some cardboard, and some Sharpies. Bring your craft supplies, and we'll go to town!

The Club Fair is on November 8, starting at 11 a.m. More information on that when I get it.

The week after should be our Illustrator tutorial night, part 1. That can help a lot of people who open up Illustrator and don't know where to go with it. Or those who open up Illustrator and do know what to do, but wish to learn NEW and AMAZING things to do with it! Or, a refresher course, because it's fun.

So, mark these nights on your calendar, because you really don't want to miss any of them.

Some updates

The last meeting was canceled because neither I nor the VP could make it. However, we do have a rush job.

The Writing Club is hosting a Poetry Slam, and they would like a specific type of poster by Monday. If you want the details, email me or graphicdesign@franklinpierce.edu. It really needs to be done, and I do not have the time to do it myself.

Other than that, our posters were used for the Teach-in, and we did get approved for our website. The treasurer of the SGA asked is we can make a page for them, but I'd like to talk that over with all of you.

Our next meeting is this Thursday, and I might be bringing snacks, so please come. Have a great weekend.
